After suspending operations last year, the cruise line is relaunching as Crystal and will set sail again on July 31, the brand said Wednesday. The luxury cruise line Crystal, which relaunches this summer, just announced a new world cruise that will criss-cross the globe in 2024. DECK 13 AMENITIES
I had been going through a tough time with a lot of personal loss, and once in Vegas I had an epiphany - do I want to go back to NYC and stand in line with 300 other women, all talented, all beautiful, all up for the same role as me? As if the universe was listening, I got the word my musical Director for Mamma Mia! Was working for luxury cruise ships and was preparing for a World Cruise. So, I went to him and I said, “I’m going to do your World Cruise for you.” I never looked back. Crystal Cruises is a luxury cruise line offering ocean, river, yacht, and expedition cruises. Each of its 8 ships is designed for the luxury traveler and includes elegant accommodations and exquisite cuisine.

Not forgetting the incredible crew who have nearly all returned – I think the number is around 80% and more return rate. And the passengers onboard still don’t know what the final itinerary will be, as the stops along the Red Sea and the Middle East are likely to change because of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, as well as recent attacks on cargo ships. At dinner, we were placed at a table hosted by the assistant hotel manager Natalya and met some World Cruisers. Dale and Diane, a couple from Calgary, were Crystal World Cruise veterans, with five months-long sailings under their belts. They viewed their World Cruise habit as an alternative to having a vacation home in a warm climate; by the time the cruises were over and they returned home, winter in Canada was over.

The complete 2023 deployment for Crystal Serenity includes 32 voyages ranging in length 7-23 nights, including a 140-night World Cruise (themed " "Wild Kingdoms and Exotic Discoveries"). Signature regions and destinations include South Pacific Islands, Africa (Egypt), Canada and New England, the Americas, Caribbean, Mediterranean. Also are offered several European excursions, a Mediterranean itinerary (Lisbon to Monte Carlo/May 20th, 2024) visiting ports in Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey (overnight in Istanbul). On March 5, 2025, Crystal Serenity starts a 44-night voyage from Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai.
The cruise line, which went bankrupt early last year, was acquired by luxury tour operator Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group in June 2022. A&K bought Crystal’s two ocean vessels — Serenity will sail its inaugural journey from Marseille, France, to Lisbon on Monday, July 31, with Symphony following suit on Sept. 1, sailing from Athens to Istanbul. Guests on the sail will travel aboard the Crystal Serenity, one of two Crystal ships that’s gotten an overhaul since going out of service during the pandemic.
The bathroom features a glass-enclosed shower with dual shower heads, double vanity, and a separate water closet. The 500+ square foot Owner’s Suite features a living area with sofa and chairs, flat-screen TV, and dining table. The bathroom includes a glass-enclosed rain shower and double vanity with a backlit mirror and integrated TV.
Linda, like most Crystal die-hards, still accidentally calls the Italian restaurant, Osteria D’Ovidio, by its old name, but says the space, overhauled by Tillberg of Sweden, feels completely different. Umi Uma — one of two Nobus at sea, the other on Crystal Symphony — has brand-new interiors, too. The Umi Uma menu hasn’t changed, which is a relief, because it turns out nothing bonds two people on a ship quite like a shared affinity for Nobu’s black-miso cod and decadent sashimi.
Crystal RIVER Cruises
Of course, it will take time to get back to where we once were, but no one really expected Crystal to even come back after the bankruptcy, let alone to have returned to sailing in less than a year and a multi-million-dollar refit. I know some guests may be anxious about coming back due to the bankruptcy but the fact is that we’re here to stay now – and we are on fire! The new builds will be kept to a family size which means that the ships will be able to retain that family-first feeling that makes Crystal stand head and shoulders above the rest. I feel I’ve been welcomed into this very select club, and I’m so thankful. Acquired by Genting Hong Kong in 2015, Crystal Cruises went through a period of expansion, adding river ships, a yacht, an expedition ship and even a private jet before the pandemic.
During the day, elegant casual is the norm and covered swimsuits may only be worn at the Trident Grill, Tastes and Marketplace. After 6 p.m., the dress code is "evening resort" when many women wear dresses or smart separates and some men opt for jackets. Baseball caps are not permitted anywhere in the evening and tailored shorts are only allowed in the Tastes restaurant.
Personalized butler service and twice-daily housekeeping will round out your luxurious experience. Umi Uma & Sushi Bar, Prego, and The Vintage Room are considered specialty restaurants and require reservations. You can dine at each of the specialty restaurants once per cruise for free. Each additional reservation you make at a specialty restaurant will incur a $30 per person fee. Long-time Crystal cruisers are greeted with hugs by crew members they’ve sailed with before—and even first-timers will feel the genuine warmth as they’re welcomed aboard. The atmospheric Avenue Saloon, where bartenders mix flavorful craft cocktails, also features nightly piano entertainment. The A&K Travel Group was founded by Geoffrey Kent in 1962 as Abercrombie & Kent. Kent grew up in Kenya and pioneered luxury adventure travel with the company's first African safaris. The Monaco-based private equity firm Heritage is the parent company of the A&K Travel Group and is chaired by Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, founder and former executive chairman of Silversea. Despite its small size, Crystal offers a diverse array of itineraries in cruise destinations around the world, from North America to Asia.
Both Crystal ships (Serenity and Symphony) are top-ranked in numerous categories and provide 5-star hotel amenities and superior services, as well as an intimate cruising experience marked by elegance and perfection in every detail. My first job was impersonating Marilyn Monroe for a show in Japan in the 1990s. It was in Tokyo that I met a dance teacher who told me that I should move to New York if I wanted to do theatre, which at the time I thought I did. So, in around the mid-nineties, I moved to NYC and started to pursue more comedic roles, first on stage and then as a stand-up. But even though I’d been having a lot of success, living and working in NYC is hard for performers, and when I was offered a chance to do a season in Las Vegas as Tanya in Mamma Mia!
